Special proclamation made by Mayor of Edmonton Stephen Mandel at City Hall on Thursday, June 24, 2010 in regards to the upcoming Hockey Canada Foundation Celebrity Classic gala

WHEREAS, a hero can be someone who is brave, who we admire, and who inspires us with their leadership and strength;

AND WHEREAS, Canada’s military personnel make valued contributions to global security and safety through combat operations, search and rescue efforts, disaster assistance and peacekeeping work;

AND WHEREAS, Canada’s Olympians engage in demanding physical training and competition to pursue their goals, and endeavour to build a peaceful and better world through sport;

AND WHEREAS, the Edmonton region is home to many of Canada’s military personnel and Olympians, and they set an example of heroism for all Edmontonians to take pride in;

THEREFORE I, MAYOR STEPHEN MANDEL, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JUNE 28TH 2010 AS “CANADA’S HEROES DAY” IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA’S CAPITAL CITY.
