INDIVIDUAL TICKET SALES FOR HOCKEY CANADA CUP WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT OPEN ON SATURDAY, JUNE 13

CALGARY, Alta. – Canadian hockey fans can buy individual tickets starting Saturday, June 13 for Canada’s National Women’s Team’s first international competition of the 2009-10 season, the Hockey Canada Cup. The four-team tournament will run from August 31 to September 6 in Vancouver, BC, at GM Place, home to the women’s semifinals and medal games at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“The tournament will be the first international competition for our centralized women’s team,” says Melody Davidson, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity to face our toughest competitors and compete in GM Place, which will be the site of many women’s hockey games at the Olympics, including the gold-medal final.”

Hockey Canada has invited the United States, Sweden and Finland to compete over five days. The four teams will play one game each day, with semifinals on Saturday, September 5 and the gold medal game scheduled for Sunday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET.

“This is a great opportunity for our athletes to play in the Olympic city and at the Olympic venues, in front of Canadian fans,” says Julie Healy, Hockey Canada’s director of female hockey. “It is also a unique opportunity for fans to come out and watch the teams that are ranked 1 through 4 going into the Olympics. I’m confident that local hockey fans will provide a true Canadian atmosphere and welcome for all the participating teams.”

Canada’s National Women’s Team is currently in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., for the conclusion of its three-week training camp. Twenty-six players have been in Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge, B.C., for the camp, which ends on June 17. The 26 centralized players will move to Calgary in late July and early August, at which point Canada’s National Women’s Team will train full-time in Calgary. The players will compete for one of 21 spots on the final Olympic roster.

Tickets for the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup start at $10 and will be available through Ticketmaster, either at ticketmaster.ca, 1-800-970-SEAT, or any Ticketmaster outlet. Fans can also take advantage of a full-tournament package – which consists of tickets to all 10 games – for $120.
