CALGARY, AB - Canada's roster for the 2002 IIHF World Hockey Championship was bolstered Tuesday as Team
Canada General Manager, Lanny McDonald, along with Assistant GM Doug Armstrong and Head Coach Wayne Fleming
added 11 players. The 2002 Championship will run April 27-May 11 in Sweden.
On Monday, Team Canada's management staff was informed that previously announced Nashville Predators
forwards Greg Johnson and Scott Hartnell will not be joining the team for the championship, both due to
injury since being named to Team Canada.
Canada's roster now stands at 18 players (two goaltenders, five defensemen and eleven forwards).
The 11 players added, (two defensemen and nine forwards), announced by the CHA are:

10 of the 11 players added on Tuesday have previous international experience. Brewer will be on his second
tour of duty at the World Championship for Canada after playing in 2001. He also represented Canada at the
2002 Olympics, winning a gold medal and played for Canada at two World Junior Hockey Championships (1997 and
1998) winning a gold medal in 1997.
Smyth has played in three World Championships (1999, 2000 and 2001) and was a member of Canada's 2002 gold
medal winning Olympic team. He also represented Canada at the 1995 World Juniors, winning a gold medal.
Whitney represented Canada at the 1998 and 1999 world championships, while his Columbus linemate, Tyler
Wright, will be making his third appearance with Team Canada after playing in two World Juniors (1992 and
1993), winning a gold medal in 1993. Jamie Wright won a gold medal with Canada's National Junior Team in
1996. Cleary played with Canada's Under 18 team previously, and this will be Comrie's first international
experience.
Peter Schaefer, a former Vancouver Canuck, played with the Finnish Elite League's TPS Turku this season.
Shaefer represented Canada at the 2000 World Championship and also won a gold medal with Canada' National
Junior Team in 1997. Brad Schlegel played with Canada's National Men's Team from 1988-1993, participated in
three World Championships (1991,1992, 1995), as was captain of Canada's Olympic team in 1992.
Two former National team players, goaltender Jamie Ram and forward Mike Maneluk, will join Team Canada and
practice with the team on a stand-by basis, but will not officially be named to the roster at this time.
