CALGARY, AB -- John Misley has been named the Canadian Hockey Association's Director of Development and
Manager of Coaching, Tom Renney, the CHA's Vice-President, Hockey announced Friday. At the same time, it was
announced that Brad Pascall assumes the newly created position of Director, Communications/Membership
Services, as the CHA continues to restructure its head office following the appointment of Bob Nicholson as
President.
Misley, 38, a native of Port Alberni, BC, comes to the CHA after serving since 1991 as the Project
Coordinator for the B.C. Amateur Hockey Association. In that role, Misley oversaw day-to-day management of
Male Under-17 and Under-16, as well as female Under-18 high performance programs. He also oversaw the BCAHA's
Coaching Development Programs, as well as the provincial hockey body's marketing services and
communications.
Misley, who holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from the University of British Columbia, also has
extensive coaching experience. He was general manager and head coach of the Hockey Club Val Rendena in Italy
from 1985-87 and again in 1989-90. Misley's coaching experience also includes a stint as assistant coach with
the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League (1988-89) and player-coach with Bad Kissingen in Germany in
1987-88.
"It's a privilege, to say the least, to be part of an organization that has such a profound impact on the
game of hockey in Canada and around the world," said Misley. "I'm certainly looking forward to helping
generate a new vision for an organization widely perceived to be at the leading edge of the game."
Misley, who officially begins his new duties during the month of August, will move to Calgary to work out
of the Royal Bank Canadian Hockey Centre, where the CHA is based.
Pascall has been the Manager of the CHA's BC Centre of Excellence in Vancouver since it opened in October
1995. He also has served as Team Manager for Team Canada at the 1998 Senior Men's World Hockey Championship
in Zurich, Switzerland, as well as media relations assistant with Team Canada during the 1996 World Cup of
Hockey.
From 1992-1995 Pascall played professional hockey with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey
League, the South Carolina Stingrays and Birmingham Bulls of the East Coast Hockey League. Pascall played
varsity hockey at the University of North Dakota, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public
Relations/Communications. He already has assumed his new duties and will move to Calgary by August 1.
"It's an extraordinary opportunity to move into this position as the CHA expands its communications
department to meet the needs of the late 1990s," said Pascall. "Part of the challenge will be to consistently
get our message out to the public, the media and our membership."
